OOhhhh, AAhhhh

Okay, just a glimpse....ain't she pretty? More to come.

Going Up.....

Okay....cabinets are going up. Things will start to come together fairly quickly now. After walking around those boxes in the last post for three days, we were able to start installing them on Wednesday. It is now Friday evening and they are almost done. Here's a couple of pics from the last two days.

Got Cabinets?

AAAAHHHHHHHGGG!

Okay, the cabinets are here. Do you see a problem? Really? No, look carefully. Can you see me in the photo? No? Really?

Okay, I think you get the picture. We kinda don't have ANY ROOM LEFT! If we have any luck, they might be installed this week. In the mean time, there will be a lot of sucking in (stomachs, that is), while we squeeze by each other.

Since the cabinets have arrived, we have painted the kitchen, and started to install window moldings and door frames and that kinda stuff. I scraped some more doorframes (curses to those who are lazy and paint latex over oil) and sanded and primed. Did I mention we had to schlep all these cabinets to the patio so we could have room to paint?

Some usless trivia: Fruit flies can squeeze through your window screens and stick to wet paint on window sills. Now, how did I know that?

Concrete Countertops 101

Okay, for those of you who scrunch up their faces when they here the words concrete countertops, lets take a closer look. This does not mean that one has a side walk for kitchen counters. This stuff is amazing....it looks and feels like a polished solid surface ('cause it is), but is 100x more durable. I'm putting this pic in to show you what it can look like. Alas, we probably won't have it in ours, as it can be quite expensive. For now, the battle of the countertop surface continues. Who will win? Concrete? Granite? Laminate (cough, cough)? Or a combination? What.... compromise?

For those of you who have ever amused themselves with the ultimate betting TV show Banzai...."Let the betting begin!"

A New Fridge (and other stuff....)

Okay, for those of you who have been asking if we're done the kitchen yet, here's my answer: HAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

The truth is we do have some sort of life, and some of this reno stuff is truly boring. What's new? Well, I got new glasses and just came back from a really nice vacation. Oh you mean with the reno? Oh yeah, this is a reno blog. Okay....well we have four walls and a ceiling. No, seriously, don't laugh. Just be thankful you're not me.

Besides, I happen to enjoy daily tripping over wires sticking up from my plywood floor (which will power the kitchen island), and rooting around in broken cuboard carcasses and rubbermaid bins looking for pots and pans, and bowls and stuff. I haven't been able to find my cheese grater for months, and I'm missing several tins of tuna.
Oh yeah, the new fridge came....there aren't you glad you logged in to see what's new? I told you some of this stuff was truly boring. We have drywall and two coats of mud on the walls, all the new windows are in and there are now pot lights installed in my previously lightless living room, which I won't show you until I've at least painted in there.

The pic below shows part of the north wall and new south wall (from the living room looking in), as they presently look now (please feel free to yawn).
